LIVE THEATER AT THE ZEITGEIST:
2007 - 2008 SEASON
August 1 through August 16:
"The Cannibals" by George Tabori, directed by Alison Christy.
George Tabori (who died in 2007 at the age of 93) is a Hungarian-born playwright and director, and a significant figures in 20th century theater. This dark, disturbing, and yet warmly human play, was the first play after World War Two to occur wholly in Auschwitz, where Tabori’s father died in 1944.
It is the story of two Auschwitz survivors who reunite 25 years later, and are joined by the children of those who perished. Together they re-enact the dinner party that determined all their fates. This epic story of history and memory, described by Tabori as a “horror farce”, uses a unique mix of psychodrama, revue, and tragi-comedy to examine the terrible choices these men were forced to make.
"The Cannibals" features Dax Anderson, Josh Campos, Katie Glaska, Caroline Hayes, Keith Kalinowski, David Legato, Lisa Melinn, Sandy Menzel, Linda Rabin-Hammell, Sean Paraventi, Rob Rose, Lauren Schafer, and Frannie Shepherd-Bates.
